Seller Appeal Plan of Action Pack · Guide
How do I appeal an Amazon inauthentic item complaint as a seller?
An inauthentic complaint means a buyer, rights owner or Amazon questioned whether your item is genuine, so the appeal rests on proving where your stock came from. Gather genuine invoices from the manufacturer or an authorized distributor that cover the ASINs and quantities sold, check that supplier names and contact details are real and reachable, and explain in a plan of action what caused the complaint and how you now source and inspect stock. Only send documents you actually received; never create or change invoices.
Steps to prepare the appeal yourself
- Read the notice for the source. Note whether the complaint came from a customer, a rights owner or an Amazon review, and which ASINs it covers. A rights owner complaint may also need contact with the brand, while a customer complaint usually needs a look at the specific orders.
- Pull the order and return records. For each affected ASIN, find the orders and buyer messages that mention the item being fake, used or different from the listing. Often the real cause is a damaged, repackaged or mislabelled item rather than a counterfeit.
- Trace each unit to a supplier invoice. Match the ASINs and quantities you sold with invoices from your supplier. Amazon asks for invoices dated within the 365 days before the notice, with quantities that cover your sales and stock for each cited ASIN, the supplier's name, phone number, address and website, and clear product identifiers. You may hide prices, but quotes and pro forma invoices are not accepted.
- Check the supplier is a real source. Confirm the supplier is the brand or an authorized distributor, for example by checking the brand's own list of distributors or asking the brand. Invoices from marketplaces, retail receipts or unknown wholesalers are weak evidence of authenticity.
- Inspect remaining stock. Check the stock you still hold, including inventory at a fulfilment centre if you can request a removal, for packaging, labels and condition issues. Remove anything you cannot trace to a genuine source.
- Write the plan of action. Root cause: the specific gap, such as buying from an unverified wholesaler or sending returned units back to stock without inspection. Corrective: what you did with the listings and stock. Preventive: how you now choose suppliers, check incoming goods and handle returns.
What to collect before you submit
- Supplier invoices covering the affected ASINs and quantities, as PDF or image files to upload in Seller Central, not by email
- Supplier contact details a reviewer could use
- Any authorization letter from the brand that you hold
- Order IDs and buyer messages behind the complaint
- Notes on stock you inspected or removed
When a done-for-you pack helps
A done-for-you pack helps when several ASINs or orders are involved, or your invoices do not line up neatly with what you sold. For sellers, we draft a case-specific plan of action, an evidence index tying each statement to a document you hold, a list of missing evidence worth gathering, a submission checklist and a note on weak points. We never create, edit or backdate documents, and you submit the appeal yourself.
No subscription and no extra fees. Delivered by email within 24 hours of your order. Covers one suspension or listing notice for one seller account.

Questions
Are retail receipts enough to prove authenticity?
Usually they are weak. Reviewers generally expect invoices from the manufacturer or an authorized distributor with full supplier contact details, and retail receipts do not show an authorized wholesale supply chain. If retail purchases are all you have, say so honestly, explain the cause and what you have changed, and consider whether you can keep selling that brand.
What if my supplier is not authorized by the brand?
Then your appeal will be harder to support with invoices alone. Explain that the supplier was not authorized, describe the corrective step you took, such as removing the stock and closing the listings, and set out how you now verify suppliers. Do not present the supplier as authorized or change the invoice in any way.
Can a customer's complaint be wrong?
Yes. Buyers sometimes report an item as fake when it is a different version, packaging change or damaged unit. Review the order, the buyer's message and any photos, and compare them with your stock and invoice. In the appeal, state the facts for each order and show the invoice that covers it, without blaming the buyer.
